Boys' Choir Co-Director
A native of Lake Chelan, Kurtis McFadden came to the Columbia Basin in 2004 as choral director at McFarland Junior High and Othello High School in Othello. He is currently in his ninth year as choral director at McLoughlin Middle School in Pasco, where his ensembles have earned superior ratings and top honors across the state. His treble choir will perform at this year's Music Educators' State Conference in Yakima both as a demonstration group for a clinic, and in a Choral Concert Hour, where they will premiere a new piece composed by Reginald Unterseher. Kurtis served as president of the regional chapter of CBMEA from 2012-2014, and has been a guest conductor and clinician. He is always seeking new ways to collaborate through choral music by commissioning regional, state, and national composers, involving outside ensembles in his performances, and creating strong ties with the high school programs he feeds. He received his bachelor of music education degree from Central Washington University with a minor in theatre education, and earned his master of arts degree in theatre production in 2010, also from Central. He has dreamed of starting a local boys' choir for years and is very grateful to the Mid-Columbia Mastersingers for giving him the opportunity to direct the Mid-Columbia Boys' Choir. His newest adventure is spending time with his daughter, Willow, who was born in June of 2015.
